Before you shop: most veterinary clinics don’t actually need “scheduling software” — they need a practice information management system (PIMS) that writes the booking straight into the patient record, next to the chart, the vaccines and the invoice. If that’s you, buy one of the platforms in Shelf 1 and stop reading the rest. A standalone booking tool like Bookafy is the wrong shelf for a full clinic, and we’ll say that plainly below.
Where a general scheduler does earn its place: mobile and house-call vets, single-doctor practices, grooming and boarding, and pet-service businesses that just want a branded “book now” page in front of the calendar they already keep — with automatic SMS reminders to cut no-shows — at a fraction of a clinic platform’s price. This page ranks both shelves honestly, with prices checked against each vendor in July 2026.
→ You run a clinic with medical records, vaccines, labs and invoicing that must live in one system: buy a veterinary PIMS (Shelf 1). Booking is a feature of it, not a separate purchase.
→ You’re a mobile vet, a house-call practice, a groomer/boarder, or a small clinic that already keeps records elsewhere and just wants online booking + reminders under your own brand: a general scheduler (Shelf 2) does it for $0–$16 a month.
These connect to (or are) the practice management system, so a booking lands on the chart with the client, the pet, the history and the bill. This is what a real clinic wants. Prices are per practice or per veterinarian and most are quote-based once you add texting, payments and phones.
| Tool | Roughly | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| ezyVet | from ~$260.50/user/mo | Full cloud PIMS for busy / multi-vet clinics and specialty hospitals |
| Provet Cloud | ~$249 first vet, +$99 each add’l vet (support staff free) | Clinics that want per-vet pricing and free non-DVM seats |
| Digitail | ~$300/mo flat | All-in-one PIMS with a client app, flat price regardless of headcount |
| Vetstoria | quote-only | Online-booking layer that plugs into 30+ existing PIMS in real time |
| PetDesk | quote (commonly listed ~$249/mo start) | Booking + client-engagement app on top of 25+ PIMS |
| Weave | from ~$249/mo | Practices that want phones, texting and scheduling in one box |
If a booking has to appear on the medical record, on the vaccine schedule and on the invoice automatically, that’s a PIMS job — pick one above. Bookafy does not do this and does not pretend to.
These sit in front of whatever calendar or records you already keep. No chart, no PIMS — just a branded booking page, automatic reminders and payment collection. For a mobile vet, a single-doctor practice, a groomer or a boarder, this is often all you need, at a tiny fraction of a clinic platform’s cost.
| Tool | Price (2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bookafy | Free / $7 / $11 per user/mo | Included SMS reminders, 32 languages, full white-label for multi-location or franchise groups |
| Acuity Scheduling | $16 / $27 / $49 per mo | Deep intake forms; powerful but a steeper setup |
| Calendly | Free / $10 / $16 per seat/mo | Simple 1:1 booking; SMS reminders cost extra |
| Setmore | Free for ≤4 users | Best free tier for a tiny practice — beats our paid plan on price |
| Cal.com | Free / $15 per seat/mo | Open-source, developer-friendly |
Good fit for: mobile and house-call vets, single-doctor or start-up practices, grooming, boarding, training and other pet-service businesses, and multi-location or franchise pet groups that want one branded booking experience across every site. Our included SMS reminders directly cut the no-shows that cost a practice money, we run in 32 languages, and our white-label option lets a franchisor or buying group put every location’s booking under its own brand and domain (that’s a paid setup for larger/enterprise accounts — we’ll walk through it on a call).
Not a fit — buy a PIMS instead — if you need: medical records and SOAP notes, vaccine and reminder schedules tied to the chart, in-clinic invoicing and inventory, lab or imaging integration, or controlled-drug logging. Bookafy also has no native pet/patient record, no cross-location inventory, and takes payment through Stripe only. If any of those are dealbreakers, a Shelf 1 platform is the right buy and we’ll be the first to say so.
Does the booking need to live inside the medical record? If yes, a scheduler is the wrong tool and a veterinary PIMS is worth every dollar. If your records already live somewhere else and you just need clients to book online, get a reminder, and pay — a general scheduler does that for $0–$16 a month instead of $250+. Buy for the job in front of you, not the logo.
Can Bookafy replace my veterinary practice management system?
No. If you keep medical records, vaccines and invoicing in one system, that’s a PIMS (ezyVet, Provet Cloud, Digitail, etc.). Bookafy is a booking layer — great in front of your calendar, but it doesn’t hold the patient chart.
I’m a mobile / house-call vet. What do I actually need?
Usually just a branded online-booking page with automatic SMS reminders and card capture. A general scheduler (Bookafy Free–$11, or Setmore’s free tier for a tiny team) covers that without a $250/mo platform.
Will it send appointment reminders by text?
Yes — Bookafy includes SMS reminders on paid plans, which is the single biggest lever on pet-owner no-shows. Calendly, by contrast, charges extra for SMS.
We’re a multi-location or franchise vet group. Anything different for us?
Yes — Bookafy’s white-label option puts every location’s booking under one parent login and your own brand and domains. It’s a paid setup aimed at larger/enterprise accounts; we cover the details on a call.
Does Bookafy integrate with ezyVet or Provet?
Not as a native PIMS integration. If two-way sync with your patient record is a requirement, use that platform’s own booking (or Vetstoria on top of it). Bookafy is for practices that want booking to stand on its own.
